Space is the place

So I upgraded my laptop hard drive to an 80 GB IBM-Hitachi drive the other month, which was just unreasonably expensive (looking now, I see that it’s not gotten any cheaper) and now it’s full again. The culprit: about 60 GB of MP3 and other audio files. So far as I know, they’re all legal (that is, they’re all ripped from CDs that I own, incredibly obscure, from live shows, etc.), but that makes me even more reluctant to get rid of them, especially since my computer is now my main music source. I’m way beyond the time when, if my HD died, I could just rerip everything; as things stand, I would be out a lot of music.

So backups are a problem, too. I should get probably a 100 GB external drive for backups. That’s kind of ridiculous. Five years ago, I thought my 4 GB drive was pretty nifty. Hell, 11 years ago I was still using a 20 MB drive that, when purchased, was about the biggest one could buy.

The real problem now is that I can’t get any more HD space into my laptop. So far as I can tell, 80 GB is it, at least until larger hard drives come out. When will that happen? Who knows. So it’s really a bit constraining. I have a list of about 10 CDs I was going to get this week, but I’d have nothing to do with them. I’m NOT going to carry them around with me.

Oh, well. At least I managed to get the Japanese Love, Peace & Poetry loaded on here before I ran out of space; it’s crazy!

Hey, I met a friend of yours… Well, I met him before tonight, but only tonight did I find out that you know each other. (Sorry if my grammar is off, I’m exhausted)
