From a recent JO’R interview:
KD:Do you feel that helped or influenced the way you make music now?JO: Well, definitely studying music helps, regardless of what people say. If you are “influenced” by it, well I think that’s still your own fault, not the school’s. You have to have a strong identity to make sure you learn from it, but let that be a view of the possibilities, not “the way”. I’m glad I studied, I still [study], but it’s just so I can get better, even if that is learning that I’ve been wrong, it’s all good.
So, I just spent like an hour fiddling around with the way this site looks (my personal one, not the main Dartblogs site), and I can’t say that I really like it. Sure, the stars are nice, but the layout, otherwise, is kind of sloppy.
I started to play with Apache’s mod_rewrite to get my “readable” pages working the way I want them to. I hate mod_rewrite; it never does what I expect it to. After a bit, I gave up on it and went with mod_alias which is so much easier to use, even if it can’t do inline redirects. So what if a few of my URLs look strange?
New York was fun; inspired by the WSJ, Angie and I went on the prowl for some illegal, unpasteurized French cheese, which we found about 15 feet away from where we started what we had hoped would be a longer and more arduous search. The best find was a heartily pungent Camembert de Normandie, though some fresh (though pasteurized) chevre and perfectly legal Pecorino with truffles were also delicious. Tim and a mute Candy joined us in the park at Greenpoint for an impromptu picnic, just feet away from some sort of Polish rock festival.
My agenda for my next trip up includes: raw triple-cream brie, another camembert (why not?), raw chevre (if you’ve never had any, you’re missing out), and maybe an Epoisse or Ossau-Iraty.
